- Extract it and open a terminal in the extracted directory.

./install.sh; the default installs the app and desktop entry under~/.local, without administrator access.

The developers haven't published app-specific steps for Gatekeeper or SmartScreen warnings. If your computer blocks the app or it won't open, use the official support tracker and include the message and your system.
MSI, AppImage, DEB, RPM and Flatpak are other package choices. Use the official installation guide for the route you choose, and keep the Linux package's runtime requirements in mind.
Your first edit, shortcuts and tutorials
Trim a short video, save the editable project and export a sharing copy. Use a clip you know well so that playback, sound and the exported result are easy to compare.
Your first edit in 5 steps
- Choose File > New > Project…, then File > Import… to add your video.
- Choose File > New > Sequence… and drag the clip from the Project panel to the timeline.
- Press C for the Razor Tool and cut around an unwanted section; press V, select that section and choose Edit > Ripple Delete to close the gap.
- Press Space to preview, then choose File > Save to keep the
.fcprojproject. - Choose File > Export > Export, select Media File, set File Name and Location, choose H.264, then click Export.

Can FilmCraft open Premiere projects?
FilmCraft cannot open Premiere .prproj files directly. Export the sequence from Premiere as Final Cut Pro 7 XML, AAF or OpenTimelineIO, then inspect the imported timeline and linked media.

Keep media files together with the exchanged timeline, especially when an AAF arrives with accompanying media. An editable sequence and a finished video serve different recipients; choose the delivery format before editing. See the full format reference.

Can FilmCraft replace Premiere Pro for my work?
Try it for simpler personal edits. Keep Premiere for direct project exchange, plug-ins and client work whose delivery depends on those features.
Can I keep my Premiere plug-ins?
FilmCraft cannot load Premiere plug-ins, VST3, Audio Units or OpenFX effects.
Why won't my MP4 or WebM import?
The filename extension doesn't describe the full codec or encoding. Report the actual media format, your system and the import message to the official support tracker.
Is there an official browser editor?
The developers provide a self-hosted browser bundle but haven't published an official hosted editor URL. Use the desktop download for the route shown here.
What should I save for later editing?
Save a .fcproj project and retain its media files. Export a separate video for sharing.
